A short sojourn in the land of elks

Point Reyes is only a two hour drive from home. The map of Point Reyes has at least three “point-y” bits – the lighhouse, the chimney rock trail and tomales point. Long before Europeans gave it a point-y name, Coast Miwok people’s name for the land was Tamál-Húye (Coast Point). It is a land of expansive sky and Tomales Point is an Elk reserve.

A moonrise. It was clear sky that night, and it is low light pollution area. If it were new moon, the sky would have glittered with stars and the Bay would have glittered with bioluminescent algea. But as it was, you could have read by the moonlight.
A sunrise

We were back in Inverness for a short weekend, and back at the Beach cottage (link). While the Chimney Rock Trail is my favorite point-y bit so far, I wanted to see the elks closer up this time. So we hiked the Tomales point trail. The day was fog and wind free. The elks did not disappoint.
