This was the season of egrets. Egrets in the waterlogged fields. Egrets flying. Egrets in the ponds and rivers.
At least two of the mornings, the air was cool enough to do my QiGong practice on the balcony. Both days, the monsoon weather brought a light drizzle. It was wonderful watching the egrets while practicing the moving meditation.
This season, I noticed large numbers of yellow butterflies everywhere. They would flit by as we would sit in traffic. They would flit by as the cars slowed down to navigate the potholes. I watched them dance around concrete piles. I watched them dance around garbage dumps.

Monsoons bring down heavy rains. At times it feels like one is walking through molasses. But they also bring occasional wonder, like these butterflies that defy the stifling mugginess of the season. I suspect that the butterflies are Catopsilia pomona, the common emigrant or lemon emigrant that migrate during the summer monsoons. These migrants like to stay by the river. And the Sahibi river (aka Sabi) is close by. The fields around are flooded due to the monsoons extending the reach of the butterflies.

We had a wonderful wedding in the family and one of my favorite ritual was watching the haldi ceremony being performed with the groom.
