I noticed the bull kelp pickles at the Highliner Cafe in Sitka. They have a wonderful selection of photos in the back, of regional fisherwomen. A conversation with the proprietress made me commit to wild caught fish.
We tasted the Kelp pickles at the Hobbit Hole, the Inian Islands Campus of the Tidelines Institute. Laura was cutting up a deer that Zach had caught. I asked if I could try the kelp pickles that I could see lining the shelves of their kitchen and she graciously offered them to us.
Apparently, bull pickles make musical instruments too. The kids in the team were skipping bull pickle. In the sea, they harbored barnacles. They feel like hard reeds and make knocking sound against the kayaks.
